If you haven't seen this one - I highly recommend it.

The main character is played by Kate Winslet. She's a detective who lost her son to suicide, and is feeling pressure because of a missing child case that has gone unsolved.

The characters are allowed to look their age, they aren't made up and smoothed over and perfected. Most the characters come across as human and complex. The characters are flawed but portrayed with sympathy.

Truthfully - most lesbians on tv annoy me, they just aren't representative of anyone I know or have met. But the teenage lesbian in this show reminded me of women I've known.

The sets aren't overly clean and perfected. The homes look real. They are filthy, dirty, real homes. The kind of homes that people buy because it's what they can afford, yet, they can't afford to maintain them.

I just can't praise the show enough.

I love the way Kate pronounces the word "something", sumptin, she really nails the philly accent!

I love this show so much!

The way Kate Winslet's character deals with being invalidated and judged and yelled at is so real too (just shutting down, not saying anything, moving on.)

No spoilers but that show is very real in the depravity of men and how it destroys whole families. I highly recommend it.

Jean Smart and Kate Winslet were perfect as mother and daughter.

I loved this series so much too. Really gripping. Hard to find something else to follow it up with! I tried "The Undoing" but it is so boring in comparison.

I'm so glad I watched The Undoing first - Mare of Easttown is a million times better.

If you enjoyed Mare's mother (Jean Smart), I highly recommend Hacks! It's also on HBO and it's a drama/comedy and Jean really shines there.

Did you ever see Happy Valley? I think the writer might have been a bit inspired by it. I loved both shows. It's not often you get stories like this.

So good! Kate Winslet nails it as always. She really is one of the best actresses of our time

The plot is gripping, characters are three dimensional, there's growth and learning, it's a great show.
